Drawing inspiration from a cassette recording made by my father in the 1980s, this project delves into themes of place, community, and memory, using visual representations of the landscape. The title, Dead is the Fox, takes its name from lyrics of a folk song originating in Ullswater, in the Lake District—the very location of the pub where the cassette was recorded.
The imagery in this work is intentionally fragmented and unsettling, mirroring the elusive and often unreliable nature of memory and storytelling. Through this visual dissonance, I aim to evoke the disorienting experience of recalling distant places and moments, where meaning is not fixed but shifts and evolves over time.
